Working with NEER
New England Equine Rescues (NEER)
After researching several rescues, Lori decided that NEER is the organization she wanted to affiliate herself and the farm with. With a stellar reputation and a proven track record of saving, rehabilitating and rehoming horses, NEER is an inspiration to all who are involved in this type of work.. You can also check the NEER website at http://www.newenglandequinerescues.com for additional information on the organization and other horses and ponies they have available for adoption and fostering.
Jiggs is Moving Forward to Finding His Forever Home!
Last weekend, Jiggs was the latest addition to NEER North and Mary Martin’s heart! Sadly, Lori brought him to NEER North to offer Jiggs a better opportunity to really showcase his talents and personality! We all miss him desperately but know that it would only be selfish to keep him for ourselves at our barn. We are so excited to watch his progress and be part of that special someone finding this special pony. We love you Jiggs!
What a Very Special Boy!
Wow! Jiggs is really coming along so nicely! His ground manners seem to get better every day, and that, coupled with his achievements under saddle, really make him a very special boy! Now four-years-old, he is ready to start really honing in on becoming the ultimate hunter/jumper pony! If anyone would like to meet this fantastic pony, please feel free to stop by the farm or contact Lori for more information!
For more photos of this talented pony, check out the photoshoot of Kenzie and Jiggs!

Roanie is Back to Stay!
Great news! Cheryl officially adopted Roanie and brought him back to Abenaki to stay! We are all so happy to see him back! After his status changed in Massachusetts, Cheryl said she just couldn’t let him go twice. She missed him desperately. So she contacted Mary at NEER, filled out the application and after the full approval process, was approved and given the thumbs up to adopt him!
Already, Cheryl and Roanie have been polishing up his ground work and manners, and have kicked butt in jump night!! He has settled right back into the herd and even rekindled his friendship with Jiggs. That had to be one of the most heartwarming reuinions! They were truley happy to see each other! And we think WE form bonds!
So, congratulations to both Cheryl and Roanie for finding each other and beginning their life long partnership!
Jiggs the Wonder Pony!
Jiggs is coming along so well! With Jess aboard, he is really working nicely under saddle. Still perfecting the walk/trot, he moves out beautifully! This young one is going to make someone a super nice hunter pony. Lori has been working on his ground manners and he is an absolute doll, in the round pen, in the grooming stall, in the arenas, outside – anywhere! He even leads nicely with just a lead line around his neck. He is really a genuine sweetheart. Pictures to come! In the meantime, stop by to see him, and spread the word to someone you know who can appreciate this boy!
NEER update 04/19/10
Jigs is doing great, thanks to Stephs work! He loves all the Parelli games he plays with Steph and is thriving with the attention both on the ground and mounted. This boy is really a love and is already a super fantastic pony. We’re shaping him into being a little hunter pony. So, all you folks looking for that special equine to love for many years to come, here he is! Come visit this really special boy!
NEER update:
Roany is here on a trial basis. What a find! He is just another example of how this economy is affecting the horse world, as he was surrendered due to financial strain. He is a beautiful, registered (super nice bloodlines!) Quarter Horse gelding. Only 9 yrs-old and about 15.2, this sorrel horse has obviously had wonderful training and handling. He is willing and trusting, and hopefully has already found his new Mom.
Jigs is a 3-yr-old dark bay pony who is so stinken cute!! He really is a sweetheart and has, within 24 hours, completely won us over!! One of the sweetest little boys we’ve met, this young one has endless potential – probably as a little hunter pony! We are really excited to work with him and completely shower him with the love and attention he deserves.
update 3/10/10
Jigs, the 3-yr-old gelding pony is doing really great in training!! His manners are wonderful, from leading him in and out of the stalls and pasture, but also on the cross-ties! He absolutely loves to be groomed and is working wonderfully on the lunge line both mounted and unmounted. Steph Mallick has been working with him, mostly, and agrees that his knowledge of voice commands is great and has a super walk and trot on the lunge line and under saddle. He has cantered, but we’re working on perfecting a nice, calm and collected walk and trot before we to to the canter. He is enjoying all the interaction which even includes some Parelli games, but mostly lots of kisses, praise and 4-H homemade horse treats. He has become quite the comedian out in the pasture with the other horses, always seeing who he can get to engage in lots of horseplay. Come visit him to see what a wonderful hunter pony prospect he is and be prepared to fall in love!
Stay tuned for more updates and always check NEER’s website at www.newenglandequinerescues.com for info on available horses, fostering and donating. The recent flower sale (yes, Virginia, Spring is really coming soon) is a great opportunity to get a great deal on gorgeous flowers, while, at the same time, helping this awesome organization.
